Sermon Notes:
I welcome you to the weekend of our annual prayer conference! I am so pleased that you have chosen to join us! I extend a very warm welcome to Dennis Smith, our guest speaker this weekend, as well as to all of our afternoon breakout session speakers. Finally, I express deep appreciation to Miguel Mendez, our pastoral advisor to prayer ministries, and to my wife, Anita Roberts, our prayer ministries coordinator. Miguel and Anita and their team are to be commended for the hard work of planning a promising weekend.
This weekend’s focus on prayer and the Holy Spirit is a crucial focus. After all, prayer inspired and empowered by the Spirit undergirds and empowers everything we do as followers of Jesus. I have often said that one of my favorite statements on prayer comes from the pen of Ellen White, in the book, Steps to Christ: “Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend” (p. 93). How could a description of prayer be more simple … and yet more eloquent?
I hope that as we move through this weekend, such will be your experience with prayer. And even more, I pray that as we move from this weekend forward, that your prayer journey with Jesus will deepen.
Let us join together, then, in the opening of our hearts to God as to a friend…
Randy Roberts, Senior Pastor
