Alexander, Caesar, and Hannibal conquered the world but they had no friends… Jesus founded his empire upon love, and at this hour millions would die for him… He has won the hearts of men, a task a conqueror cannot do. – Napoleon Bonaparte

INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON
A sermon series on Jesus… What a delight! Today we begin a journey that will be far too brief. After all, how could one ever hope to be able to adequately describe or define Jesus?
So what we will do is simply to consider some of the ways in which Jesus is the ultimate answer to a few of the deepest needs, questions and situations of our lives.
Consider what a few have said about him.
Christ is a substitute for everything, but nothing is a substitute for Christ. – H. A. Ironside
Jesus Christ is a God whom we approach without pride, and before whom we humble ourselves without despair. – Blaise Pascal
Since He looked upon me my heart is not my own. He hath run away to heaven with it. – Samuel Rutherford
Jesus was God and man in one person, that God and man might be happy together again. – George Whitefield
Jesus Christ, the condescension of divinity, and the exaltation of humanity. – Phillips Brooks
To read such statements leaves me with an ever deeper yearning to know him better.
Yours as we seek to know him.
