Pastoral Welcome: Gilda Roddy
Scripture Reading: Matthew 8:23-27, TNIV read by Laura Tobing
Children's Feature: Shawna Campbell
Sermon Notes:
Every night before I went to bed, my mother would sing an old British nursery rhyme to put me to sleep. The words and cadence still echo in my mind, even after all these years, “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor, Rich Man, Poor Man, Beggar Man, Thief.” That simple song hints at the reality that in our world, labels matter. The profession we practice, our political inclinations, marital status, religious affiliation, and even our names play prominent roles in defining our identities.
William Shakespeare once wrote, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Today, we take a break from our doctrinal discussions and political pronouncements to engage with Scripture as we ask the question, Who is this Jesus?”
May God grant us wisdom–In His Name,
Miguel Mendez, pastor for spiritual development
