Part 3 - The Missing Piece - The Missing Piece: Blessing - Randy Roberts
Pastoral Welcome - Randy and Jewel Speyer
Scripture - Genesis 27:5-10, TNIV
Sermon Notes:
Someone once said, “The two biggest gifts parents can give their children are the gift of roots and the gift of wings.” Simply put, the first gift, roots, provides for children a deep sense of belonging. I am part of this family. These are the people to whom I belong. From them I can experience belonging and nurture.
The second gift, wings, empowers children to grow up and leave the nest; to become independent; to grow into emotional maturity. I can live on my own. I can take responsibility for my own actions. I am a productive member of society.
I would suggest that a key component of each of these two gifts is giving a child the parental blessing. The blessing is the parent’s way of saying, You are loved! You belong! You have our favor as you move out into the world!
From time immemorial, children have craved their parents’ blessing. Sadly, many do not receive it. For them, it becomes the missing piece to life. What if you are one of those children? Is there something that can answer that yearning?
We turn to Scripture today for answer. I invite you to join us!
