Pastoral Welcome: Kirk and Shawna Campbell
Scripture Reading: Psalm 56:6–8; Psalm 4:8; Matthew 11:28–30, TNIV - Burt and Shandee Clark
Sermon Notes:
Rest. The word conjures up images of Lazy Boy recliners and naps, weekends off and vacation. It’s hard to argue the fact that, as Americans, we are stressed out! In fact, let me ask you this question: When was the last time you felt truly rested? For some, that question is difficult to answer.
With that in mind, consider these words, taken from the Harvard Health Letter (Vol. 39, Num. 5, March 2014): “Are you tired of struggling with fuzzy thinking and a faltering memory? Tired may be the key word. ‘Poor sleep has an adverse impact on thinking,’ says sleep expert Dr. Lawrence Epstein, an instructor in medicine at the Harvard Medical School. ‘This is true whether it’s due to a lack of sleep or a sleep disorder.’”
Our lack of rest becomes evident in many different contexts: nodding off in a meeting at work; fighting to stay awake on our daily commute; impatience with our children; frequently feeling sluggish—and the list goes on. We need rest!
God knows that, and God offers us rest! That’s good news! Today we consider two very important ways in which we can experience the rest God knows we need.
Join us! And may you rest in his love.
