Sermon Notes: Loma Linda University Church, situated as it is at the heart of a campus that houses both a university and a hospital, is a church filled with busy, hard-working, enterprising, and talented people. In fact, it would probably not be too far off base to say that many members and friends of this church are people who are characterized by the fact that they are, were, or will be students—some of them lifelong students! In such a setting, if you happen to be a one-talent person (see today’s Bible parable), it is very easy to begin feeling like the one-talent man of the parable felt. Do you remember the one-talent man? He looked at all that the other ones had, at how little he had, and what he thought the master’s expectations were … and then he did nothing. Well, that’s not exactly true. He did do something: he buried his talent and then waited for the master to return. The parable has something very pointed to ask to each Christ-follower. The question is this: What are you doing with yours? You’ve been given something, something that the Master expects you to use. And readiness for the Master’s return has much to do with how we put to use what He has given us. Will we use what’s He’s given us, or will we bury it? So my question for today is simple: What are you doing with the gift(s) He has given you? Randy Roberts Senior Pastor
