Sermon: "A Way Out" ('Tis Not Yet the Season Part 2 of 4) by Randy Roberts

Pastoral Welcome: Otis Coutsoumpos

Scripture Reading: Matthew 1:18-23, TNIV read by Janel Salamante and Angeline Domingo

Sermon Notes:

How recently have you needed a way out—a way out of something? It could have been anything. You were speeding, and now the officer is sitting in his cruiser with your driver’s license and insurance paperwork. “Is he going to write me a ticket?” you wonder. “I sure wish there was a way out of this!”

Or you’re sitting in class, taking a surprise quiz. Last night you spent a little too much time at the gym, playing basketball. You should have been studying. You knew it then, and you’re sure of it now! “I wish there was a way out of this surprise quiz. I wonder if the teacher will throw out our worst score?”

Or you sit looking at this month’s credit card bill. You’re stunned! “Who bought all of this stuff?! How am I ever going to pay this bill? I wish there was a way out of the mounting debt I’m facing.”

Or what of a spiritual quandary? “God, I am in deep spiritual weeds. I don’t know where to turn. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to escape the problems I’m facing. Is there a way out?

What does Christmas have to say about such things? What does God offer, what does God do, for people who need a way out? Join me today as we turn to the Old Testament prophet Isaiah and continue our Christmas sermon series, ‘Tis Not Yet the Season.

Randy Roberts, senior pastor
