Sermon: King: Christmas When Life’s a Battle by Randy Roberts (Part 3 - Christmas: Your Needs, His Names)

Pastoral Welcome: Genevieve Koh

Dedication of Teen Ministers: Randy Roberts, Rob Mohr

Child Dedication: Madison Taylor Murray - Randy Roberts

Scripture Reading Matthew 2:1–6, TNIV - Allison Connelly

INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON We face conflict everywhere we go: on the freeway, at the mall, on the basketball court, at home. And then comes Christmas, the season of “peace and joy.” And we hope—sometimes even expect—that it will be different. Is it? Not usually! In our current Christmas sermon series, we turn our thoughts to the reality that life often seems like a battle. “Can I find peace anywhere?” The truth is: the battle that is waged between opposing forces is as old as Christmas itself. Conflict and fighting and bloodshed marked the very first Christmas. And, sadly, things have not changed. Today, we travel back to that two thousand year-old event and try to understand not only what caused the battle, but what might help to bring peace in the midst of conflict. After all, don’t you sometimes wonder what you can do to contribute to a more peaceful life and marriage and family and world? It may be that the answer you need is to be found two thousand years ago in a manger. As we consider the son born to Mary, I pray that you will remember once again that, as Paul said so long ago, “He himself is our peace” (Ephesians 2:14). God bless you. And Merry Christmas!
