80th Anniversary Celebration and Building Fund Offering
Next week we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Loma Linda University Church.
Somebody said to me the other day, “It’s amazing that an 80 year old church is not
only still around, but is still vibrant!” It’s exciting to be a part of a church like that!
I hope you will join us as we celebrate this milestone in our history.
We will also collect the annual December building fund offering. Have you made
your participation in this offering a matter of prayer? I hope so. The economic
trials we currently face make giving a true act of faith. Exercise your faith and give
liberally!
Ministry Opportunities
On Sabbath, January 3, 2009, you will have the opportunity to volunteer to
participate in one or more of the ministries of this local church. Our service that
day—which includes the Lord’s Supper—will focus on service and the sharing of
our gifts in ministry. Would you be willing to begin 2009 with a decision to minister
to others?
Christmas
The evangelist Luis Palau tells the story of a wealthy European family who decided
to have their newborn baby baptized in their enormous mansion. Many guests were
invited to the elaborate affair, and everyone who came was dressed in their finest
attire. After placing their elegant wraps on a bed in an upstairs room, the guests
were entertained in royal fashion.
The time finally came for the main purpose of the gathering—the infant’s baptismal
ceremony. But they couldn’t find the baby! The child’s governess ran upstairs and
returned with a desperate look on her face. Everyone searched frantically. Finally
someone recalled having seen him asleep on one of the beds. And that’s exactly
where he was—on a bed buried beneath a pile of coats, jackets, and furs. The object
of the celebration had been forgotten, neglected, and nearly smothered.
Beneath all the outward trimmings and trappings of Christmas lies a baby. Don’t
rest until you answer for yourself the question, “Where’s the Baby?”
Best Wishes for Christmas, 2009
Anita, Austin, Miranda, and I want you to know what a privilege it is to minister to
you, our much-loved congregation. We cannot imagine a more loving, supportive
and gifted congregation in which to labor. As we count our blessings this Christmas,
the privilege of ministering to you will be one of the top items on our list. Thank
you for enriching our lives!
We wish each and every one of you a blessed, joyous, safe and merry Christmas!
