I’ve said it before and plan to repeat it often: for the Christian, the Bible is the book on which we have based our faith and staked our future. It tells the story that gives shape and substance to our lives. It promises the reality of a kingdom to come which we Christians call “the blessed hope.” All of that in one book! And yet—and I hate to write these words—many of us have never even read it. Pause a moment to consider the significance of that last statement: staked our faith and our future on it, and yet many have never even read it!

If that describes you, then I want to challenge you to make 2014 the year when that changes. I want to challenge you to take your Bible off the shelf or to open your Bible app and, on January 1, 2014, begin by reading Genesis 1:1. And I want to encourage you to continue reading until you close the book, having read all the way through to Revelation 22:21.

And if you have already taken that journey? Take it again in 2014! I have, and yet I
plan to. Will you join me?
