Sermon Notes:
Today, we begin an eleven-week journey with the Old Testament personality, Nehemiah. Nehemiah was a builder. He lived at a critical time in Israel’s history, and accomplished a two-fold task of great significance: the building of Jerusalem’s torn-down walls, and the reforming of a backslidden and backsliding people. He gets overlooked often, but when we overlook him, we do so to our loss. He has so much to offer us!
You are building something: a house, a marriage, a career, a practice, a reputation, a family … a life. No doubt your energy, passion and prayers are focused on that reality. It would be unusual if that experience didn’t consume a great deal of your lifeand energy. In fact, it is possible to become so focused on what is right in front of us that we fail to think deeply of the lessons God might want to teach us in the process. Because of that, whatever you might be building, I urge you to join us week by week as we journey with Nehemiah. After all, Nehemiah can offer us life lessons of deep importance.
Pray with me that God will do for us what he once did for and through Nehemiah.
