Sermon Notes:
I’m quite certain that I’ve never seen a time in my adult life with as much division in the public square as we have today. The presidential election was as divisive as elections can get. And since the election, every day holds more news of deeper divisions. As difficult as it is to see our country this divided, it is not so difficult as seeing the same divisions in the church.
Many, if not most, of us have strong political convictions. In a democracy, that is as it should be. However, in recent times, our political convictions have been deeply divisive between brothers and sisters in Christ. I have listened to friends on both sides of the political aisle express with deep passion the reasons why they see our current climate as they do. I myself have such perspectives. The challenge, however, is seen in the vilification and demonization of others, even of brothers and sisters in Christ.
So what is a healthy, spiritually-mature way to respond to such things? Does Scripture suggest a way to think about such things?
Enter Daniel. As amazing as it may sound, a prophet who lived thousands of years ago offers us a perspective on God and world conditions that is amazingly timely. In our study of Daniel, we turn today to Daniel 4, a chapter that was written . . . well? It seems like it was written yesterday!
Join me today as we learn important lessons from, of all people, King Nebuchadnezzar!
