Sermon Notes:
Today is February 14. I cannot bypass the opportunity to wish a very Happy Valentine’s Day to the love of my life, my wife Anita! I expect by now you have already reached out in love to all the special people in your lives!
Today we look at a woman who appears to be like every leader I know—a mixed bag of courage and fear, wisdom and foolishness, high standards and base actions. Haven’t you noticed that the more you get to know (or know about) any leader, the more you realize that he/she is just as human as the rest of us? It’s a truth that quickly emerges from the pages of Scripture: all of God’s (unsung) heroes have
feet of clay.
That truth actually affirms both my confidence in Scripture and my faith in God’s willingness to use us ordinary mortals. After all, the pages of Holy Writ are filled with such stories: Jacob the liar, Joseph the brat, Moses the murderer, David the adulterer, Peter the denier, Paul the persecutor. And Miriam—well, what about Miriam? Is she another example of God’s willingness to take our feeble, frail, fallen
attempts to honor him and turn them into lives that glorify him?
The story of Miriam and her experience in the leader’s circle is one worth considering. Join me today as we do so.
