INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON

Tens of millions of single adults live in the United States today. Some estimate that the number is over 100 million. By no means are all singles interested in dating and marriage and, even of those who are, not all will date and marry. However, many will. The church, then, ought to have something of importance to say to single people who date, and who date in the interest of establishing a lifelong connection in marriage.

There is, however, a problem: the Bible was written in a world dramatically different from ours, particularly when it came to things such as finding a spouse. In light of that, is there anything it can offer to single, modern adults in this area of their lives?

I believe so, though it is by way of principle and inference rather than by way of specific practice and precise directions. Join me today, then, to consider what biblical wisdom might offer to single persons who date in the interest of making a lifelong commitment to another human being.
