INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON
“Psalms for the Playlist of Your Life” is the title of the sermon series that we begin today. Do you love the psalms like I do? This hymnbook of ancient Israel is filled with all the realities of authentic human life – praise and prayer and worship, but also sorrow and questions and anger. The truth is, most of us would never dare to pray in the way the psalmists do! But maybe that’s why we love the psalms so much – they express the unexpressed condition of our hearts.
We will spend our winter and spring in this series. I have listed below the dates, titles and psalms that will be the focus of our study. Would you accept my invitation to take the time to immerse yourselves in each of these psalms as we move through this series? God will richly reward you!
Psalms for the Playlist of Your Life
February 6 - Talking Things Over With God (Psalm 4)
February 13 - A Song for the Insignificant (Psalm 8)
February 20 - The Enduring Human Cry (Psalm 13)
February 27 - Sheltered in the Forgiveness Of God (Psalm 32)
March 6 - An Exercise in Contrasts (Psalm 36)
March 13 - Wise Counsel for When Life’s Not Fair(Psalm 37)
March 20 - The Divine Citadel (Psalm 46)
April 10 - A Familiar New Song (Psalm 96)
April 17 - Stand and Deliver (Psalm 101)
April 24 - Looking Beyond What’s in Front of You (Psalm 123)
May 1 - If … (Psalm 124)
May 22 - He Knows My Name (Psalm 139)
A book the size of Psalms – 150 psalms, after all! – obviously is longer than we will take for this series. Further, Easter, the Honduras mission trip, Mother’s Day, and such, will create some breaks in the series. But I invite you to focus your attention for the next few months on the book of Psalms.
May God bless you. And might this study be a transformative experience!

MEDITATION
I used to write in my daily calendar, “7–7:30 a.m.: Prayer.” But many times I passed that up. It was one more thing to pass by that day. Now I write, “7–7:30 a.m.: God.” Somehow that’s a little harder to neglect. – Don Postema
