Sermon: "What WOULD He Do?" by Richard Hart

Prayer: Darold Retzer

Pastoral Welcome: Bernard Taylor

Student Feature: Shaun Smith, Parker Maloney

Meditation:

“Jesus saw in every soul one to whom must be given the call to His kingdom.  He reached the hearts of the people by going among them as one who desired their good.  He sought them in the public streets, in private houses, on the boats, in the synagogue, by the shores of the lake, and at the marriage feast.  He met them at their daily vocations, and manifested an interest in their secular affairs.”   The Desire of Ages,  p. 151

Scripture Reading: Matthew 4:23–25, TNIV - Wanda Patterson, Jessica Patterson

Introduction to the Sermon

This week we have explored “Jesus in Scrubs” - views of our Master from our everyday world.  Loma Linda is blessed, as a health care institution, to face real issues of real people every day.  This provides us with remarkable opportunities to follow Christ’s example of compassion, understanding and love.

This morning we are once again drawn to follow His example.  Asking the popular question “What Would Jesus Do” we are led to ponder His role in the life of this campus and community today.  As He walks our sidewalks, visits our facilities, listens to our conversations, and watches our actions, how would He respond?

Have the stories and symbols of our relationship with Him become jaded and worn?  Have our pictures and sculptures lost their ability to remind us of our role on this earth and in this community?   Are we modeling for our students and the community the actions and relationships that He would desire?

My desire is that His influence is alive and well in each of our lives.  May Loma Linda University cherish the unique role we have to serve our patients and model for others the special understanding we have been given of His methods.   His winsome attitude of acceptance of everyone can permeate our own lives and relationships as we draw closer to Him.
