Sermon Notes:
Today’s teaching punctuates a week of celebrating the outrageous, shameless, limitless and relentless grace of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Gospel of John. To conclude the Winter Week of Spiritual Renewal we consider a story that reminds us that God’s grace erases all our sins—even the sins so dark we fail to see them.
This raises a crucial question: Whose sin is darkest?
Is it the sin of Simon? Or the sin of Mary?
The sin of the flesh? Or the sin of the heart?
The scandalous sin of the prostitute? Or the spiritual sin of the pastor?
In the end, we are all in desperate need of God’s grace. In the words of Jerry Bridges, “Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God’s grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God’s grace.”
