Pastoral Welcome: Gilda Rody
Children's Feature: Roy Ice
Scripture Reading: Matthew 22:34-40, TNIV read by Andrea Parra and Jonathan Soto
Sermon Notes:
For over a decade, Tiger Woods was the dominant force in pro golf, spending a record 683 weeks as World Number One. He has been awarded “PGA Player of the Year” a record eleven times and has the record of leading the money list in ten different seasons. But after personal issues, a rash of injuries, and poor performances, Woods experienced a significant drop in his ranking. In July of last year, he dropped to a ranking of 1,005, the first time he’s ever been out of the top 1,000 in his career.
His difficulties in recent years has Woods thinking about life after golf. In December of 2015, The Week magazine reported that Woods was struggling to find his identity after his third back surgery. Woods told reporters, “There is really nothing I can look forward to; . . . I am really good at playing video games. That’s basically how I pass a lot of my time.”
At the age of 43, Tiger is now preparing to make a comeback in a sport he used to dominate. He may still be able to recapture the success he enjoyed earlier in his career. However, his experience reminds us of the stark impermanence of the many goals to which we devote our lives. God has a more lasting goal for our lives. That’s why what God wants most is for us to desire and devote ourselves to His vision of life.
Join us this Sabbath as we conclude the final message of the series, The Two, where Jesus finishes describing what God wants most.
