Pastoral Welcome: Marvin Ponder
Scripture Reading: Genesis 1:26–28 - Nicole Seheult
In late June and early July of this year, representatives from the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church will meet in San Antonio, Texas. This major event takes place every five years. Doctrinal matters are decided, many different church officials are elected to five-year terms of office, business issues are addressed, leaders present reports from different parts of the world field, and friends have theopportunity to make connections. It is a most interesting time!
At this year’s meeting, one of the key items on the agenda is whether or not to allow the different divisions (there are 13 of them) of the world field decide whether or not to ordain women to the gospel ministry in their territory. This matter has been studied extensively and (some would suggest) discussed endlessly. As such, it is a most important decision. Our church has been clear in its support of women in ministry. I ask you to lend this matter an important place in your prayers.
This weekend (Friday evening, Sabbath morning at all three services, and Sabbath afternoon) we focus on this key issue. I am most pleased to welcome the guest speakers to our church. And I invite you—our members and friends—to join us for these very important sessions.
May God bless us with courage and guide us with grace.
