Sermon: “One Another: Willing Hands”  - by Randy Roberts

Pastoral Welcome: Randy Speyer

Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:13–16, TNIV

Children's Feature: Shawna Campbell

Sermon Notes:

The words from Galatians 5:13 are deceptively simple: “ . . . serve one another humbly in love” (TNIV). It’s amazing how much can be said in simple words such as those! Consider, after all, what those words—if we followed them wholeheartedly—would demand of us.

First of all, they wouldn’t allow us to choose between those we want to serve and those we don’t. The two words one another pretty well cover the waterfront, don’t they?! Then, they would go to the attitude with which we serve, for Paul says we are to do our service humbly. And finally, they dictate the purpose and motivation of our service: in love. Whew! That’s a tall order contained in such simple words.

My question—both for me and for you—is, Are we up to it? In other words, are we willing to take these words seriously? If we are, they will revolutionize not only our own discipleship journey with Jesus; they will also revolutionize the ethos of this church community to which we belong.

After all, if we take them seriously, we will be saying certain things much more frequently . . . . May I help you? What do you need? Do you need a parking space? Would you like to sit with us? I can be there to help! Is there anything else I can do? And the list goes on . . . . But that’s not all—because we would say (and do) the above with a smile on our faces and joy in our hearts!

So again, the words are deceptively simple. Serve one another humbly in love . . . . Are you ready to take them seriously?
