Sermon Notes:

Today we begin a six-part sermon series titled Unsung Heroes. Over the years that I have been privileged to serve as a pastor here at LLUC, I have preached many sermons on biblical personalities. As I look back over those sermons, a reality jumps out at me: most of the series or individual sermons dealing with biblical personalities that I have preached have dealt with the men of the Bible. Certainly, that is appropriate, as many of those people in the limelight of the Bible’s focus were men! However, the Bible also tells the stories of many women integrally involved in the mission and plan of God.

In this series, it is my purpose to address the question which is the subtitle of our series: In the Bible, what did women do? Currently, many in our church are asking questions about women in ministry. It is not my purpose to deal directly with those matters but rather to peer into the lives of biblical women to discover what they actually did. To what mission did God call them? What roles did they occupy? In what ministry positions did they serve? How did those around them relate to them? Answers to such questions will enlighten all of us.
