INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON
Today we begin a special week-long series of worship events and sermons entitled, “Invitation to a Journey.” Each January, the Loma Linda University Church joins efforts with Loma Linda University and Loma Linda University Medical Center to sponsor a Week of Renewal. One of the features of this week is that a variety of different speakers participate. The last two years have featured the senior pastors of college and university churches throughout the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists.
This year the list of speakers is somewhat varied. We began with a desire to include as many chaplains/young adult pastors from those same churches as we could. By the time the planning was complete, we actually ended up with a list that is characterized by two things: 1) it is somewhat varied, including chaplains and young adult pastors, but also including several others; and 2) it is a group of speakers who have something important to say to our entire community but who will be in particular interested in speaking to young adults.
Our meetings this year will take place at both Sabbath worship services on January 9 and January 16, as well as in the mornings at 11 o’clock on Monday through Friday. I hope you will plan to join us. I believe a true blessing is in store for us all.
The facet of the journey with Jesus which I will address is worship. I have chosen as my text Romans 12:1–2. It is a rich passage, overflowing with relevant meaning for our lives. I invite your prayers as we consider Paul’s words together. May God bless you. And might this week truly be a growing experience!

MEDITATION
Earlier in this century, someone claimed that we work at our play and play at our work. Today the confusion has deepened: we worship our work, work at our play, and play at our worship. – Leland Ryken
