Sermon Notes:
Just a few days ago, Roger Federer won Wimbledon for the seventh time. I don’t
typically watch tennis, but several years ago I happened to catch Federer playing
another well-known player, Rafael Nadal. It was one of those matches where you
thought one player was going to win the game, and then the other would rally back.
I was so impressed how each player persisted until the final match point.
Federer won that particular match, but I asked myself afterwards why didn’t they
give up when it seemed either player was too far behind to win? I realized that one
reason was simply the fact that they knew that no matter how bleak the match might
be going for them, they could still win. In fact, they expected it.
The focus today is on how we as Christ’s disciples might experience more than winning a game but expect to experience tangible transformation everyday.
