INTRODUCTION TO THE SRMON
Greetings all!
It is wonderful to have the opportunity to share with you all again. This week I want to visit an old Christian symbol, the cross, and plumb its depths for new meaning. We all know what the cross stands for, but the well is so much deeper than we can even imagine. To me, the cross has become more than just suffering and dying, more even than the gift of salvation, (although this reality will always take precedence), but it is also a clear example of what it means for us to abide with one another in community, and how this dwelling with one takes shape in practical and experiential ways. I suppose another way to say it is this: The cross is the love of Christ, expressed in flesh and blood, to all who would approach it.
The question I will be asking today follows along these same lines. What is your cross to bear? How does your love take flesh and bone? Are you growing in Christ in a way that not only bears fruits, but bears his cross? This cross is a symbol of community, of service, and of course, of love. We become a community of the cross when we begin the journey with Jesus that led him to the cross. We maintain our community of the cross status as we live in the shadow of that same-said symbol of service, community and love.
Grace to all today as we take refuge in the shelter of the cross.
