Sermon Notes:
The experience Peter has in Acts chapter 10 is the reason why we are worshiping in a community of faith today. For Peter, it marks the departure from what is known and comfortable to a strange and challenging journey into uncertainty - into the unmapped regions of his heart. He is going to learn, for the first time in his life, that his world is not the real world, that God is up to something bigger than the culture and beliefs he grew up cherishing and practicing.
In the first part of Acts, we read how the early church experienced exponential growth through the outporuing of the Holy Spirit. What occurs in the account of Acts 10, when Peter crosses the doorstep of Cornelius' home, not only had profound implicaitons for the early church, but also continues to reach in to the unmapped regions of our hearts today. If Peter, who by all accounts was successfully leading the early church movement had more to learn about Jesus, could it be that we have more to discover about what it means to follow Jesus today?
