INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON

A mountain of bills, broken relationships, stressful jobs, health issues, loneliness . . . . Our
personal life issues can often redefine us. In fact, they can overwhelm us to the point where
people know us by our issues rather than by our name. Have you ever been so overwhelmed
by an issue that you felt lost within it? Today, we will get reacquainted with a woman from
Matthew 9 who is nameless. She’s nameless because her issue had engulfed her and her
identity entirely. But somehow this did not deter her from attempting a seemingly impossible
journey-a pilgrimage to touch God.
We will also take a closer look at those who surrounded Jesus--the faithful followers.
They had been with him, but somehow had never “touched” him. They had been with him
and never received the glory he had to release. They had encircled him, but had never been
drawn into his presence. They were all around him, pressing up against him, but no one had
ever touched him. They were walking all around him wondering who was going to sit on the
right side, and who would sit on his left, who had the greatest church, who had the best music
ministry, etc., but none of that touched him.
Finally, somebody came through the crowd who was hungry for a touch from the Lord. My
question for you today is this: Might there be a crowd here at the Loma Linda University
Church who really wants to touch the Lord?
It is my prayer today that you will experience that touch like never before.
