Pastoral Welcome: Otis Coutsumpos
Scripture Reading: Tim and Birgit Sherwin
Sermon Notes:
We continue our Micah series by looking at two messages of extreme contrasts found in chapters 3 and 4. While reading chapter 3, it is easy to feel as if there is no hope and as if evil is going to conquer Israel and the world. Then in chapter 4, there appears to be enough hope to not only conquer the evil in Israel but also in the entire universe. One chapter is a message of complete destruction; the other speaks of eternal restoration. What is Micah doing? What is God doing? It feels like God can’t decide whether He’s going to destroy or save His chosen people. Despite the initial confusion of contrasts, closer examination reveals some very compelling insights. The message this week will explore the difference between actions of the visible kings of the Jews and the invisible King. We will discover that the words of destruction and restoration are part of a grander plan. God’s loving commitment to justice and mercy makes all the difference in how we experience life. Join me in listening to Micah’s messages from centuries ago that can still inspire us living in the 21st century to better way of life.
