Meditation:
Unless we see a beauty and delight in the worship of God, we will not do it willingly. – John Owen
Nothing should be done or sung or said in church which does not aim directly or indirectly either at glorifying God or edifying the people or both. – C. S. Lewis
We may be truly said to worship God, though we lack perfection; but we cannot be said to worship Him if we lack sincerity. – Stephen Charnock
The perfect church service would be one we were almost unaware of; our attention would have been on God. – C. S. Lewis
Responsive Reading: Taken from John 4 - Darold and Carol Ann Retzer, Peter Gleason
Sermon Notes:
Baccalaureate and commencement services have slipped into memory for another year.
As our church family meets for worship today, we turn our attention to a series entitled, “On
Purpose.” Our purpose in this series is to examine our purpose! I am hopeful that if someone
asked you, “What is the purpose of the Loma Linda University Church?” that you would know
the answer. If not, here it is: Growing disciples is the purpose of LLUC. We seek to be growing disciples, and we invite others to join us as growing disciples.
How does that happen? LLUC’s four values provide the biblical answer. Growing disciples:
1) worship God, 2) study the Bible, 3) participate actively in the community of the church, and
4) serve others by working to meet their spiritual and physical/emotional/relational needs. In
this series we will thoughtfully examine, then, the four values of worship, study, community
and service. Today we begin with the topic of worship.
Pray with us as we move through this most important process. Knowing and living our purpose is vital for being the people that God has called us to be.
Yours for His purposes.
