Sermon Notes:
Music is what feelings sound like. It conveys our emotions more powerfully than words can ever communicate. During those moments when we have difficulty putting into words what we are experiencing, we allow music to speak for us. As author Victor Hugo so aptly wrote, “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” The book of Psalms contains some of the earliest recorded efforts by humans to express their emotions to God. They are heartfelt songs written by God’s followers over a period of more than eight hundred years. They convey love and anger, joy and sorrow, elation and frustration. Like all songs, they were meant to be sung rather than studied, experienced rather than examined. The Psalms are much more than just words on paper. They are songs filled with emotion. To truly understand them, we must listen with both our heads and our hearts. So, join us as we journey through the Psalms in our series, More Than Words, where we will seek to deepen our knowledge and our feelings toward God as we hear the music of the Psalms.
