James Kelley of Washington, D.C., is one of a small group at his local church who are enthusiastic Episcopalians, but who do not believe in God. Said Kelley, "We all love the incense, the stained-glass windows, the organ music, the vestments and all of that. It's drama. It's aesthetics. It's the ritual. That's neat stuff. I don't want to give all that up just because I don't believe in God."
If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn. —Jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker (1920-1955)
Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:9–13, TNIV - Stan and Carol Appleton

INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON
Life comes at us one day at a time, which seems slow on some days and quite fast on others. Does it surprise you sometimes at how fast a year can go by? Whenever the anniversary of an event comes up I often think, “wow, another whole year as passed by?” I know that I can get caught up in the busyness of life, often doing good things, and not necessarily set a significant trajectory for myself. Often times, January 1 is a great time to evaluate your life and where you want to go in the year ahead, what are some goals you would like to set and what would you like to accomplish. We can celebrate our accomplishments as well as taking time to see areas in our lives that need improvement. Of course, it’s never good to only focus on our shortcomings, however it is good to be honest with ourselves and try to make our lives a little better in the year to come.
An anniversary is another great time to do that, the day on which a significant event took place in your life. How far have you come since that day, and how much farther do you wish to go? Today I want us to take a look both at our church collectively and ourselves personally, and ask ourselves, "Where is God calling us to move?"
