INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON
Ecclesiastes 4:6 ”Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind."
Graduation weekend just finished a few weeks ago. It was great to see all the kids, excitement in their eyes, preparing to step out into the world. The weekend was filled with listening to many of their dreams and plans for the future. It reminded me of my graduation from Great Lakes Adventist Academy....a few years ago.
As I looked at these kids, so much future in front of them, it caused me to look back on my own journey. A good portion of my life so far has been spent trying to ensure my success and make sure that the next step is secured. I am constantly attempting to manage my success. The reality is that I don’t trust God.
Now I know that I can’t be foolish and just live life without any acknowledgement of my future. However I do need to remember that I was put here for a purpose. I have a greater reason for being here than just seeing how much I can accumulate before I die.
God has taken such good care of me up to this point that I can’t imagine He would stop now. I need to quit being concerned about the next step and be more focused on where and how God wants to use me today. After all, the wisest and one of the wealthiest men who ever lived, acknowledged that I will never have enough and that it’s better to have some peace than attempting to gain everything. I want to be more than a wind chaser.
May my prayer always be: dear God, help me to be content with what I have and where I am at. Help me to trust you and believe that you have my future in control and in your hands. Bless me in ways that will allow me to bless others and help them receive the peace you’ve given me!

MEDITATIONS
A friend of mine described a colleague as great at running the "ninety-five-yard dash." That is a distinction I can do without. Lacking the last five yards makes the first ninety-five pointless. – Max DePree
The reaction of my family and me to our extraordinary good fortune is not guilt, but rather gratitude. Were we to use more than 1% of my claim checks on ourselves, neither our happiness nor our well-being would be enhanced. In contrast, that remaining 99% can have a huge effect on the health and welfare of others. That reality sets an obvious course for me and my family: keep all we can conceivably need and distribute the rest to society, for its needs. My pledge starts us down that course. – Warren Buffett
