Sermon Notes:
The book of Acts is personally one of my favorite books in the Bible. For me, Acts is all about what happens when the Kingdom of Heaven is unleashed, when ordinary people get hold of the message of Jesus and do something extraordinary. This is where this book is headed. But where it begins is quite different.
In Acts 1, the words of the great commission are still lingering in the air: to take the gospel to all people in all places. You would think the disciples could hardly wait to get going on this mission. Yet, the beginning of the book of Acts gives us a fascination image-we find the disciples standing and staring. Of all the responses to this epic send off by Jesus, we find them not running to tell the whole world about Him, but standing and watching, not looking for those who don't know Jesus.
And so this Sabbath, we will explore the ways in which we as followers of Jesus can get caught, much like the disciples, sitting and staring and waiting for Jesus to come back when the reality is, we/ve got some work to do.
