Sermon Notes:
How many friends do you have in this church? One? Two? Five? None? I pray that your answer is not the last one. I pray that not only because I yearn for a church where there are no
lonely people; I pray that because the New Testament picture of the church is that of being a
body—the body of Christ. As such, all the different elements are interrelated and connected.
Another way to say it is to recognize that the New Testament concept of church is a body
where there are deep and decided and vibrant connections between all the parts; it is the
picture of a body where no part is disconnected from the others. I daresay that if you are not
connected to others in this body, you will soon cease to be a part of this body. And I don’t
want that to happen!
As we seek to fulfill, then, the purpose of growing disciples, we seek to deepen our connections with each other. I pray for the time when each member of this church can say, “I have
many friends at LLUC!”
Now a word of advertisement! I am excited about Camp Meeting 2012. Circle the four weekends ofAugust and the first weekend of September on your calendar. The title of this year’s
sermons series is, “A Bucket List for the Young … and the Young at Heart.” Don’t miss it!
A friend in the body of Christ,
