Sermon: "God’s Business" by Dan Matthews

Pastoral Welcome: Jacqueline Lynch

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 49:12–16, TNIV - Travis Losey

INTRODUCTION TO THE SERMON

God is in the “People Business.” And, it has been that way from the very beginning of the planet. God made light and life and beauty and resources and said, “It’s good.” But evidently, it was not good enough because He later said, “Let us make man in Our image after our likeness.” And He did, and said,“Very good.” But apparently it was still not good enough, because He also said, “It is not good for a man to be alone.”  And, He made woman to share the light and the life, the beauty, and the resources.  And God has been in the People Business ever since.

Throughout scripture we are reminded that God has instructed the Bible writers to assure us that we are His people and He is our God. For example, Paul was inspired to assure the Corinthian believers "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." 2Cor.6:16 TNIV

Yes, God’s very business is people. We are His business. Each person, you are, very precious to God. You are His business. You are a child of God.You are God’s beloved son, sir.  Lady, you are God’s beloved daughter. That’s because God is in the people business. He is really more concerned about you than you can ever possibly be about yourself. And, He assures us He never forgets us. (Isaiah 49:12-16 TNIV) By faithful extension, we are in the “People Business, too.”

Today, we remember some very special people. We will honor the memory of our dear ones who have gone to rest as we participate in a memorial tribute at the end of the service. At the beginning of the service we will honor our family members who have served our country in the military. We will give particular recognition to World War II veterans who are a part of our faith community.        In his book by that title, Tom Brokaw calls them The Greatest Generation.
