Sermon Notes:
Moving is always challenging. On the one hand is the excitement of going to a new place, meeting new friends, living in a new house, and experiencing a new environment. All of those can be quite exciting! On the other hand, however, is the pain of leaving behind good friends, the job of packing one’s belongings, and the frustrations that come from being in a state of transition.
Well, Nehemiah’s people are moving. Actually, it might be more accurate to say that they are moving in. They are moving into the city of Jerusalem—a historic city, andyet, a city with a fairly new temple and with brand new walls. As with moving of any kind, they will face different issues and challenges. The question for us today is this: Does their move teach us things about moves and transitions in our own lives?
Get some boxes and get ready to pack! You might be moving!
