Sermon Notes:

It is a delight to welcome you to the Baccalaureate services for the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry! These Sabbaths are always lled with anticipation and excitement! Students have worked so hard for so long to reach this day—and it is nally here!

I begin, then, with congratulations to each student who is celebrating this milestone weekend. Your hard work has paid off; you’ve engaged in a job well done; and now your reward is more responsibility! After all, that’s the way it is, not only in life, but also in the world of Jesus. He, after all, said, “To the one who has, more will be given.” And you are about to given more responsibility! But God will empower you to capably meet the challenge.

You will notice that today’s services are structured a bit differently than such services have been in the past. Students will be more the focus of what happens than has been the case in the past. They will share with us about their educational journey; what Loma Linda University has meant to them; what the experience of student life has been like; but, most important of all, they will talk to us about service—service to God and service to others. I hope that their experience of service and their desire to spend their lives in service to God and others will set a standard for each of us.

As we worship God together today, the words of Billy Graham are worth pondering: “The highest form of worship is the worship of unsel sh Christian service.”

May God bless us all as we leave this place to go out and serve a needy world.
