Sermon Notes:
One never knows what a year will bring. How is your life different than it was a year ago today? Do you have a different job? A new home? Did you graduate in the last year? Maybe a child was born. Or maybe ... tragically ... a loved one has died in the past year. How is your life different this year than last?
Close to Memorial Day each year, we dedicate a segment of our worship service to remembering individuals in our congregation who have died in the past year. That feature will take place at the end of today's service. such an experience always evokes emotions and conjures up memories. There may be sadness and tears may flow. It is an appropriate time, then, to speak of grief, that univeral human response to loss of any kind.
Is there something unique in the Christian message that offers comfort to a grieving soul? Today, after we have considred the words and images of Psalm 56, I believe you will say, "Yes? There is."
So, if you are traveling the road of grief, may God comfort your grieving sould through the message of his word.
