Sermon Notes:
We’ve been headed True North since October 19. Throughout this journey into character, we have considered duty, will power, honor, integrity and courage. And today we turn our thoughts in the direction of kindness. It would be hard to overstate the importance of kindness. Simply put, the rest of the character qualities we have considered—and various others as well—could end in a harsh and even judgmental place if not softened by kindness.
It might be surprising to assign such an important place to a virtue as gentle and apparently frail as kindness, but Scripture does. I have to confess that I myself was a bit surprised to find it appear so many times in the Bible, as well as to notice the value and prominence that different biblical writers give to it. I look forward, then, to our time together today as we sense the Spirit gently nudging us to simply be kind to one another.
And if we follow the Spirit’s nudging, it will lead us to be people of kindness. And people of kind character?! Now there’s a proposition I can live with!
May the kindness of Jesus sustain you today.
