Have you ever stumbled upon an old truth? Something that shaped you in a profound way in the past, but as time moved on you forgot about? Do you remember what happened when you reclaimed that old, timeless truth—how something of the past brought about new light, a new revelation, a new way of thinking and seeing the world around you? 

In the second chapter of John’s letter, he draws the attention of his readers to not a new commandment, but an old one—one which we have had all along. Because John knew that it was and is the tendency of human nature to forget, he reminded them of who God is, of who we are in God, and how Jesus changed everything. So this Sabbath, we turn not to a new truth but to remind ourselves of an old one—an old truth that I believe will bring new insight, new life, and new light into each and every one of our lives.
