Pastoral Welcome: Shirley Ponder
Responsive Reading: 1 John 3:1-3, TNIV - Tyler and Vonnette Stewart
Sermon Notes:
In the process of raising their children, parents face many joys and many sorrows. Such realities are as different as are families and the contexts in which children are raised. But at least one thing seems to be almost universal: most parents take great pride in hearing a friend say, “Your kids look just like you!” Maybe it’s the sense of family connectedness or the reality that they themselves had a part in creating these lives or the promise of making an impact on the future, but, whatever it is, we count it as a precious reality.
Do you suppose that God feels the same way? Do you suppose God glows when someone says to one of his children, “You know what? You remind me of God! What you did for me looks just like something God would have done!"
I think God must take great joy in that! Today’s passage tells us that one day, “we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2, TNIV). The blessed hope reminds us that such will be the reality when Christ returns. But before that time comes, there are other ways we can “look like” God. John will help us understand that in today’s study.
May God’s rich grace enable us to remind people of God.
