Sermon Notes:
God doesn’t want your life to be a series of struggles where you somehow prove to Him how serious you are about following His will. He is here to help you. He wants to prosper you. He wants you to live with the hope that only comes with the assurance that you are not alone. You have a resource who has never been defeated.
God wants you to live a life of exciting risks—a life that is full of successes that only His supernatural powers can bring. He wants your “beforelife” to be filled with exciting stories that will be repeated and repeated throughout your eternal life in heaven. You’re not alone in this life. God has already mapped out the best game plan for your purpose. You will win if you let Him take over and get involved. His Spirit is the boost of will power you have been looking for all along.
You are not expected to prove anything to God on the field of life. If we are expected to win the game on our own—if God’s role is to simply carry us around on His shoulder in a great post-game celebration—then we really have no need for Him or his sacrifice. He would simply be that hard-to-please parent that we’re struggling to appease. Many people over time have expressed their belief that God wants you to “Do your best and then He’ll take care of the rest.” But nothing could be further from the truth. You only prove one thing to God by trying to impress Him with your spiritual skill—you need help. We were not created to go it alone. We are meant to go with God. We are made with an inherent need for a supernatural daily dose of His Spirit to give us a boost of will power.
