Intergenerational mentoring and passing on of wisdom must become a value... – Dan Kimball
And then we have the younger generations who are craving someone to mentor them, someone who will invest in their lives and show them the ways of the Lord. – Dr. Howard Hendricks
Scripture Reading: Numbers 27:15–23, TNIV - Michael Isidro
Sermon Notes:
Thirteen is the average size of a youth group in churches across America. When one stops
to think about it, how does that translate to an entire church congregation, once they are
older? When those thirteen youth grow up, assuming they don’t move away from their home
church, will they be involved in their church and be a part of the congregation? A part of the
leadership?
Though youth, children and young adult attendance at University church is not the average size, the question still remains, will these kids and youth grow up to be involved in their
church, be a part of the congregation and part of the leadership of the church?
According to the Barna Group, when it comes to role models, “for better and worse, teens are
emulating the people they know best. More than two out of three teens identify people they
know personally as their primary role model.” This revealing fact gives our church family the
upper hand (a greater than 66% chance according to the statistic) in our teens choosing a
role model whom they know, if we are personally involved in their ministry and familiar with
who they are as individuals.
The sermon this week takes a look at the training and preparation Joshua experienced for
leadership of God’s people and how this translates to the training and preparation of our
teens for the leadership of God’s people today.
May you be open to God’s word this week!
