Meditation:
Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons, but they are helpless against our prayers. – Sidlow Baxter
Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees. – Corrie ten Boom
No learning can make up for the failure to pray. No earnestness, no diligence, no study, no gifts will supply its lack. – E. M. Bounds
The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but he trembles when we pray. – Samuel Chadwick
Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:7–12, TNIV - Allan Peace
Sermon Notes:
What is God’s attitude toward our prayer requests? Does he respond willingly or
grudgingly or does he ignore them altogether? Do we have to talk him into good
things or out of bad ones? Is he reluctant to give to us the things we desire and
need?
We know that God calls us to prayer. And we know that God desires that such
prayers make a profound difference in the world. As E. M. Bounds says, “God
shapes the world by prayer. The more prayer there is in the world the better the
world will be, the mightier the forces against evil…”
We also recognize that God does answer prayer. As Adoniram Judson put it: “I
never prayed sincerely and earnestly for anything but it came at some time; no matter at how distant a day, somehow, in some shape, probably the least I would have
devised, it came.”
However, because not all our prayers are answered when and how we want, we
end up wondering, What is God’s attitude toward my prayer requests?
To such themes we turn our thoughts today.
